Session leaders: Jacob Jett
Description: Abstract:
The HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC) enables computational access to the HathiTrust corpus, a digital library of over 14.2 million books and other materials digitized by the Google Books project and other mass-digitization efforts. The HTRC Workset Ontology is an RDF-based data model that is designed to better capture metadata describing scholar-made research collections for non-consumptive analysis. This ERRT will discuss the ontology's core vocabulary and extension points. This talk will also discuss several of the partially resolved and unresolved use cases such as workset member granularity, workset member source, and describing workset contents by kind.

Jacob Jett is a doctoral student at GSLIS. His work employs formal methods to examine issues in the conceptual foundations of information access, organization, and retrieval, especially with regards to web and data semantics. Knowledge representation techniques and modeling exercises, such as ontology development and conceptual modeling, represent a sizable area of overlap in his research. He received his master's degree('07) and Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Digital Libraries ('10) from GSLIS.
